The database of Chinese Standards includes national standards and industrial standards. Chinese standards may be either mandatory or voluntary. Mandatory standards are enforced by laws and administrative regulations.
National standards are often referred to as "GB standards". Industrial standards or industry standards (also referred to as "professional standards") are developed and applied when no national standard exists, but where a unified technical requirement is needed for a specific industry sector.
