Xu Fengzeng The contents of iron and other elements at a mine site had been studied experimentally by the neutron capture method.In the investigation a 512-channel pulse height analyser;a NaI scintillation detector and an 241Am-Be neutron source were used;the activity of the source being 1.18/108 and spectral resolution;less than 11; for 137Cs.The borehole effect had also been corrected experimentally by the result obtained in a model borehole. Moreover;the relationship between the 7.64 MeV peak’s area and the iron content had been measured with an error less than ± 10;. Neutron captured γ ray loggings were made in five wells;and the results indicate that the iron contents are less than that detected from core analysis.The Conclusion is that the neutron captured γ ray logging is applicable in geological exploration.
