Excavation of Chariot-and-horse Pit No. 1 in Graveyard of the Marquis of Jin in Beizhao,Shanxi
shanxi provincial institute of archaeology school of archaeology and museology of peking university between 1992 and 2001; six large-scale excavations were held on the graveyard of the marquis of jin. nineteen tombs belonging to nine jin marquis and their wives were unearthed. each pair of tombs was accompanied by several satellite tombs and a chariot-and-horse pit. since 1992; the shanxi provincial institute of archaeology; in collaboration with school of the archaeology and museology of peking university; has excavated the pit no. 1. it is the largest pit; belonging to marquis su of jin. the excavation fell into three successive phases. it was found that more than 105 horses were buried in the eastern part of the pit; and 48 chariots were in the west. this pit is the most large-scale chariot-and-horse pit of western zhou; with the most chariots in it. there were a variety of complete chariots put into the pit. this excavation is extremely valuable for the study of the structure; form; and style of chariots in the western zhou period.

Excavation of Donglongguan Graveyard of the Song and Jin(Jurchen) Dynasties in Fenyang,Shanxi
shanxi provincial institute of archaeology fenyang municipal bureau of cultural relics and tourism from june to december in the year 2008; a collaborative archaeological team carried out exploration of the area of the planned a road from fenyang to xiaoyi. four graveyards were found and excavated. among them; donglongguan graveyard was the largest; containing 27 tombs. based on the structure features of the tombs; the murals; the funerary objects; and the date of the land deed; the tombs were likely built in the period from the late northern song to the jin (jurchen) dynasty. this excavation provides new materials for the study of the particular funeral conventions of that period in central shanxi.
